Flying Nerd writes to Network 10 about qualifying

Well, I’m doing something about it. What about you?

Dear Network 10 Motorsport team,

Thanks for showing the F1 qualifying from Bahrain. The FIA has really got it right this time—at last, qualifying is interesting and exciting again.

Like many Australian F1 fans, I was delighted that you provided complete coverage of the Bahrain qualifying. I could name at least three of my close friends who watched the show (none of whom would normally see any TV at 0230 on a Sunday morning).

Like many Australian F1 fans, I’m disappointed that you don’t seem to have plans to provide full coverage of qualifying for forthcoming races (except Australia, of course). I’m sure that you would find a dedicated audience to watch the qualifying for all rounds if you were able to make a slot in the schedule for it.

As for any business, I’m sure that cost is an issue for you. Given that qualifying is likely to appeal more to the enthusiast than the casual viewer, I’m certain that there would be no loss of entertainment value if your coverage was limited to the ITV feed (with ITV hosting, introductions, etc.). With no on-air talent in Australia, you could avoid all the studio costs (camera operators, lighting crew, floor managers, etc.).

Come on, Network 10. Here’s a great opportunity to live up to your epithet: your home of motorsport.

Very sincerely,

[FN]

I sent the message to tv@rpmlive.tv.

I received the following reply:

Thankyou for your e-mail to ‘RPM’ at Network TEN; your home of motorsport.

We receive a great deal of e-mails so please be patient and we will reply to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support, and we hope that you continue to enjoy our programming throughout 2006.

Kind Regards

The RPM Team

If I hear any more, I’ll post it here.
